چکیده

Many models simulating the behavior of Shape Memory Alloys (SMA) exist nowadays, in the one or three dimensional situation. In most of the cases they are not able to describe the non isothermal behavior of SMA due to the thermomechanical loadings. Indeed, the influence of the stress on the product phase leads to an orientation of the variants, when the temperature creates a self-accomodating martensite. The result of these two different influences is that the oriented product -phase creates large deformations of phase transition, although the selfaccomodating one does not produce any macroscopical deformation. In this paper, we develop a model of phase transition which takes into account the two types of martensite. Using this model allows us to simulate the behavior of SMA in isothermal or non isothermal loadings. Thus, the pseudoelasticity, the orientation of self-accomodating variants, the recovery stress or the thermal cycling at constant stress or strain can be simulated with a good agreement with experiments.

Theoretical modelling of the effect of plasticity on reverse transformation in superelastic shape memory alloys

Stimulated by recent experimental results on superelastic NiTi shape memory alloy, a theoretical study is carried out to quantify the effect of plasticity on stress-induced martensite transformation, using a constitutive model that combines phase transformation and plasticity. A constraint equation is introduced to quantify the phenomenon of the stabilisation of plasticity on stress-induced mar...

Phase field-finite element approach to study the effects of plasticity on thermal- and stress-induced martensite in shape memory alloys

Numerous experimental studies have shown that evolution of the martensite microstructure in shape memory alloys can lead to plastic deformation. This results in poor functional fatigue in many commercial applications, whereby strain incrementally advances with repeated thermal cycling under stress. This can also affect structural fatigue, whereby repeated cycling initiates and grows fatigue cra...

Isothermal martensitic transformation in metamagnetic shape memory alloys

We show that in metamagnetic shape memory alloys exhibiting a magnetostructural first order phase transition the direct transition from ferromagnetic austenite to nonmagnetic martensite is isothermal. In contrast to the direct transformation, the reverse one nonmagnetic martensite–ferromagnetic austenite is athermal, just as are athermal both direct and reverse martensitic transformations in co...

Adaptive Tunable Vibration Absorber using Shape Memory Alloy

This study presents a new approach to control the nonlinear dynamics of an adaptive absorber using shape memory alloy (SMA) element. Shape memory alloys are classified as smart materials that can remember their original shape after deformation. Stress and temperature-induced phase transformations are two typical behaviors of shape memory alloys. Changing the stiffness associated with phase tran...

Two types of martensitic phase transformations in magnetic shape memory alloys by in-situ nanoindentation studies.

Ni based magnetic shape memory alloys (MSMAs) have broad applications in actuators and MEMS devices. Two-stage stress induced martensitic phase transformation, a widely observed phenomenon in these alloys, is described conventionally as a fi rst stage L21 (austenite)-to-10M/14M (M: modulated martensite) transition, followed by a second stage 14M-to-L10 (tetragonal martensite) transformation at ...
